SPEAKER_03:

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Aesthetic Report, the final episode of season five. I'm Elizabeth Brazier. I'm Lani Soaker. And where your in-house aestheticians, if you haven't already learned that fact and you're learning it now, you need to catch up a whole lot on our many past seasons that we've had. I I can't even think that it's been that many seasons. Like it's just kind of flown by. I mean, Lenise, you you kind of got onto this a little on the later end, but you just feel like such an integrated part of this now. Like I can't think of doing this without you, if that makes sense.

SPEAKER_04:

Thank you. Yeah, this has definitely been a great season. 2025 has definitely been good to us, I feel like. A lot of ebbs and flows, of course, being in our industry, but uh wouldn't have it any other way. Like being an esthetician is one of the best decisions I feel like I could have ever made in my life. This year I'm set up celebrating 10 years of my spa business. And then to be a Dermoscope in-house esthetician has just been an amazing experience. I mean, getting to connect with thousands of estheticians worldwide, getting to actually connect with some of them in Vegas at the conference. You know, it's just been uh going to what the Aesthetic Next event uh in Dermoscope as a sponsor. You know, it's just been an amazing opportunity to be a part of this amazing team. So grateful that you welcomed me in with open arms. And shout out to Lauren, too, that took this journey with us too earlier this year. And we're just ready. Like you had a lot of things that have been for 2025. Yes.

SPEAKER_03:

This has been a pivotal year, if I could call it that. I mean, yeah kind of like you were saying before we got on. It's definitely been a year to remember, whether that's on the better or worse side of things, depending on who you were, maybe in the industry. It was definitely one of those years that really that really tested a lot of people. And sometimes you either come out on the good positive side, or sometimes you really realize that you need to take another direction with things. And, you know, in the in the groups, in the in the forums, things like that. I mean, that was like on repeat, like I'm having to shut down my business or I don't know what I'm doing, and things like that. That was that was like the theme this year, and it's it's really unfortunate, but I do think it it creates that landscape of like, where are we really heading in this industry? I've really enjoyed doing the events style of episodes that we've had this year, this season. It's it's definitely been a really interesting take and kind of that bird's eye view of the industry as a whole. But yeah, I mean, as me personally, so I'm going into my 15th year as an aesthetician. I can't believe it.

SPEAKER_04:

It makes me feel like an old part, but definitely not an old part, and you dang sure don't look like one.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay, listen, when I get some of these people that I'm talking to and they're just like, yeah, you know, I've been doing this five years, and oh my gosh. And I'll tell them, I'm like, I'm gonna do this 15 years. Let me go get my walker, you know?

SPEAKER_04:

And guess what? I think when I have a walker, I'm still gonna be trying to do a facial. Like, literally. Probably. I don't know how I'm gonna be able to ever like stop doing this.

SPEAKER_03:

I can't, I can't not do like even this month, like if the listeners out there kind of don't know what's happening in my life right now. I'm literally in the midst of moving into my own solo space. Finally, finally, finally, finally.

SPEAKER_01:

Congrats, so exciting.

SPEAKER_03:

It is happening, yes. So it's kind of been on my mind here and there. You know, I would get a lot of questions from clientele, from people in the industry. They're like, why haven't you gone solo? You really should. You should, and I'm like, I don't think, I mean, I know y'all know what y'all are asking for when you're in the industry, but like clients, I'm like, I don't think you know what you're asking me to do. You know, it's it's not like I can just open a door, throw up a bed, call it good, and go. That's not my style. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. Sue me. It's just what it is, you know. But I knew that there was like certain things I didn't need, certain things that you know I could do without. That's fine. But it felt like the right time, you know?

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

And I was like, am I a complete idiot doing this in the middle of a financial economic strife type of year? Probably. But but it it makes you look at things in a very logical way. Right. I mean, you came from, you know, a corporate, you know, kind of structured mindset. And I think for you, that has helped you a lot to structure your business in a way that makes sense. You're not structuring it as an aesthetician who was playing spa and then, you know, got lucky or whatever. The people that I really know that have had the long haul, they've either had that type of background or they've worked their way up to it to learn their way to do it. And so that's inadvertently what I did is that I learned from a lot of different avenues in the spa space.

SPEAKER_02:

Right.

SPEAKER_03:

So, yeah, Dermoscope is going to help me in covering this piece of my life right now. And we're gonna be doing a really special column with it. So, this will be a monthly installment and Dermoscope, uh, their Instagram page. And it's gonna be a really cool insight into building a solo practice, being a veteran aesthetician. You know, why did I make the decisions that I made and you know, the timing that I did. And so I'll hope you all will follow along with my little crazy life that's going on right now. My son's about to turn one. I can't. I'm just time went by so fast.

SPEAKER_04:

It did. It did. I'm so excited to see your monthly column, and I can't wait to come. I still want to book a facial with you because I feel like we have not done that. Like we've been in each other's lives, but I do want to be intentional about a number one coming to support you, being that support that if you have any questions on this journey that you're going on solo, I have your back. And then I want to come get a uh what is you to you told me you're getting the cold plasma. You have the cold plasma. Um I do. I do have the chat plasma. So I'm excited to come get that because I need some rejuvenation myself. And as estheticians, right? Like I know we have worked our butts off this year, and we focus on pampering everyone else except ourselves. So in 2026, y'all are gonna see me doing some mixing and mingling on the Dermoscope page, where you can see days in the life with me on this entrepreneurial journey as an esthetician. Me going to go see my girl Elizabeth in her new place. And we're going to capture just different things that you, I'm sure y'all probably want to get in our business a little bit more. And you're gonna see that on a monthly basis with us for 2026. And I love that because I feel like these days people do want to get in your business more. Like people want to know you on a more personal level. And I love like that's the direction that we're heading into. So y'all stay tuned with us for 2026, and then I'll be doing some other like monthly columns that you guys will love to probably see what we're doing. So for 2026, for me, I didn't tell you this, Elizabeth, but I'm going to open up my esthetician school. Oh that is something that I've been running from actually. And being able to do this 10 years full-time serving clients. I obviously have started a mentorship over the past years. I've uh launched my apprenticeship that has been successful over the past two years. And matter of fact, I'm about to hire uh open it up for new apprentices if y'all are interested. I'm looking to hire new apprentices. I'm looking for two to three. I mean, you can email me or DM me if you're interested at Lace Balanese Spa. But the thing is, it's time for me to give my time to estheticians and future estheticians. And so I already have the name. It's gonna be Laced University Skin and Aesthetics, and that is coming 2026. My goal is to have it open March 2026. That's really quick. That is very quick. As I'm getting everything together, I'm like, ooh, I don't know if I'm gonna reach that deadline, but it is coming soon, y'all. So that is a big project that I'm working on to um be able to license. But what's gonna be my unique identifier is it's going to have a business development program upon graduation. Because my biggest issue that I've ran across with mentoring other estheticians is they don't know the business side. Yeah. And that's the part that I really want to be able to offer at my esthetician school because I want every esthetician I come in contact with to be successful. Not just knowing how to do that service, but how are you gonna thrive and make it past the threshold of two years? Like our livelihood as estheticians when we go solo is a two-year span. Elizabeth and I have been estheticians and I've had my business for 10 years. And that's because I have business sense. And I want every person that steps through my school and comes across me, you're going to know the business side so you can have longevity. This has changed my life being an esthetician. Getting to do something I love every single day for 10 years. I get to do this, and I've gotten to pass certain thresholds that I never thought I would ever be able to do. You know, making extreme amounts of money and it don't even feel like I work. You know, like here we are closing out the season, and we're up at almost eight o'clock at night talking about what we're passionate about. You know what I mean? But it's simply because you get to do something you love. And that's a passion that you have to have in this industry so you don't feel that burnout or that where you want to give up or quit. If you don't have that, you may need to reconsider what you're doing and maybe take a different path. I know soon I'll be hiring for instructors. You know, if you're like, you know what, the treatment room is burning me out, let me switch gears. What can I do in order to maybe start a podcast? You know, you can start a podcast and talk about your journey. Um, you can also do online courses to hone in on what it is you offer and what you're good at doing. Now you can offer a digital portfolio to other estheticians. Like it's okay to pivot, but as long as there's passion behind your pivot, you're gonna be able to be successful and land on your feet in this industry. That's why I love our industry. Like, there are so many things we can do. It just decides on what is your lane, what way you do you want to experience life-changing opportunities. That's my skill.

SPEAKER_02:

I know I didn't get a whole lot, but that's so exciting. I didn't, yeah, I didn't even know you were planning on opening like a school.

SPEAKER_03:

I mean, that's girl. I know how much work that is. Like I helped plan one of the schools here in DFW. Not gonna say which one necessarily. And she was having so many issues getting accredited.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, I know that's the hard part. That accreditation part can be really hard, but I'm not gonna worry about that just yet. Because it does take a little while to do it, and it takes uh you have to be in business like two years before you can get accredited. But I hear it's a booger. I hear it's a booger to get accredited.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, I mean, yeah, just the paperwork alone, you're dealing with the state. It's you think of putting a business, I mean, the fact that you already have a business mindset is gonna help a ton. But yeah, I I know what because everybody's like, why does this school have to stick with this and whatever, and yada yada? And I'm like, you don't realize how much like red tape there is, and you know, financing and different things like that that you're having to handle on the back end, and yeah, I mean, paying instructors, it's just it's so much more than just get into class, take the lesson, right? Become an esthetician kind of thing.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah. Creating a curriculum, like that was a lot, but it was like, you know, this is next level. Like, what it, what is it, what is gonna be your next step? And I want to ask you guys that, you know, to the aestheticians listening and spa owners, like if you are feeling a certain way, like what can you do to pivot? And again, it's okay, it's okay. Like, Elizabeth is about to open up her own uh spa. You know, like she's 15 years in the game and she's now about to open up her own spa, which is so exciting. And people may think, oh my gosh, yeah, the economic time, but it's your time because we all have our own book that's being written. Yes, and your book is this is your chapter now. And my book is telling me my chapter is now to open up my school. So, you know, I that's another thing. Like, we can't do and focus on what other people are doing and what other people think we should do, and is the time right for them? No, it's what's the time right for you, and I love that you're doing it your way on your time, and this is now your time to get into uh what is your business name?

SPEAKER_03:

So, my my spa name is preparation skin spa.

SPEAKER_04:

Preparation, I like that.

SPEAKER_03:

So that good old mixture of holistic and clinical techniques, um, some new things that I'm rolling in, but still a lot of my favorites that I'm bringing on.

SPEAKER_04:

Good, I love it. Preparation, like that's one of the best things that we can even talk about in skincare. Yes, prepping your skin for what's next.

SPEAKER_03:

I was like, I'm always on for the prep work and uh prepping this, and I'm prepping people for this and that and the other. And yeah, and actually in the like 50s, 60s, they would you know, really call like facial treatments, like because they would like mix up stuff in a bowl, you know, essentially, skin preparations. So that's kind of where I found the terminology as well. So I love that era, and it was kind of the foray into women really like truly making it mainstream to take care of themselves. Like beauty and hygiene has been around for millennia, right?

SPEAKER_04:

Right.

SPEAKER_03:

But to truly come on that consumerism time front of like, oh, we actually need to be actively taking care of ourselves and actively doing things. Right. So I wanted to highlight that.

SPEAKER_04:

I know that for 2025, I forgot to tell y'all too. I did win Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year. I saw that. One of the things is I don't really like talking about myself or like I did this and I did that. But I mean, I feel like it's appropriate because I have been doing this for a while. And so it's like I'm getting my flowers and uh winning 2025 Beauty Entrepreneur of the Year for Cosign Network and then uh best medical spa for 2025 as well in Dallas. It's just one of the one of the many reasons to be like, you know what, Lanise, you are doing a good job because I feel like I don't do that a lot. How many of y'all can relate? Like we just 100,000 ten percent, yes. All of the above. It's like weird to like be like, you know, I'm I am doing great. I don't do it.

SPEAKER_03:

I don't do it. I am so bad at praising myself. I'm I'm grateful to have my husband because he is a massive cheerleader on that front. He's like, because I'll have days where I'm like, what am I doing? What am I doing? How much money did I just spend? What am I doing? Right. And he's like, babe, you're making a spawn. It's gonna be awesome. It's gonna be so freaking awesome. I love it. That's how he talks. So he's just like, he's like, no, it's gonna be like the best big he's like, you're gonna have to pay me to get out of there because it's gonna be so awesome.

SPEAKER_04:

Like, I love that so much. Shout out to the husband.

SPEAKER_03:

It showed me one what a good like support system I really do have. Like I have him, but like my clients have been so freaking excited. Like, I think they've been ready for this longer than I have, honestly. Like, just beautiful. You know, I've had one that's like she's become a friend, you know, along the way. And she's like, yes, whatever you need, let me know. I'm gonna be in there, I'm be helping you do whatever, you know, all those things. But even my like other, it was kind of we're like a little a little trio. And so my other one, she like helped me actually design the logo. Oh, that is that was her little gift to me, was helping me come up with that. So that was really nice. And yeah, it's it's been really cool to see how much they're just like, I I'm so thrilled for you, and I'm so excited for you, and this is gonna be so amazing. And you know, even like when I look back on this year and I'm like, oh my god, I didn't freaking do anything. Like, I didn't go to any, like, I didn't travel anywhere, I didn't go anywhere, I didn't do anything, whatever. I'm like, ma'am, you had a baby this year, and exactly and you started building a business too. Like, I think you're okay, you know. So like you said, you kind of have to like yeah, pat yourself on the back a little bit. So you do too, and I accept that yeah, yes, definitely. But yeah, I just want to say thank you to all of our listeners. We couldn't do this, obviously, without you. If there was no one to listen to us gab, we just have to gab to each other, and you know, that might get really boring after a while.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, so grateful to the listeners. The fact that I got to meet some of the listeners this year, like the fact that they recognize me, I was very shocked. Like at some of the aesthetic events, of course. And I was like, What? You listen to our podcast and you know that it's me. Oh my god, you know, that really made me feel good to know that that happened to me a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm trying to remember when I went to Vegas and like I had somebody come up and I was like, Who are you talking to? What are you talking about? Because I had only been on it, what, oh, probably a year or two at that point. And and I was like, Me? You want to talk to me? What? Right, right, right. But it's always really, really fun.

SPEAKER_04:

And I I do miss uh going to shows and things, so I'm really hopeful now that's why you're probably gonna be able to get out in 2020.

SPEAKER_03:

Now I can I can plan my own calendar and I can go to things. I know the first thing I have coming up. Um, I actually got a call from Narita Joy to come to her her understanding skin tour. She's relaunching that in LA. Oh my god. When is that? That's amazing. April. It's in April. Okay. And so a super, super sweet hotel that she's gonna have it at. And I'm really excited to see her again. Yes, I love Narada.

SPEAKER_04:

Hey Narada, we love you.

SPEAKER_03:

I know she yeah, she called me up and she was like, Well, hey, would you be willing to come out and like spend some time? Yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_04:

Okay, not the legend. I feel like she's a legend. Like, I haven't gonna say no to the legend.

SPEAKER_03:

And that's the thing is like once she gets to know you, you are like her friend. Like, yes, you are just connected, you know. There you have absolutely, but um, yeah, so I'll I'll be doing some some content as well with that, I believe for the Dermoscope Instagram stories too. So in April be looking for that as well. But uh yeah, I'm definitely gonna start getting my calendar together for some of the rest of the the trade shows and things this year. Um, because I've definitely missed it. I have missed it. It's it's been too long since I've gone.

SPEAKER_04:

Yes, yes. I just also want to highlight us for 2025 too, like balancing all of the things that we've done to even podcast. You know, like we are still busy aestheticians, busy moms, and able to juggle and add this into our life. You know, um, I feel like a lot of people also felt that part. And it's okay if things get off, you know what I mean? Like, and it's okay for you to prioritize certain things and you can't make everything. So don't be so hard on yourself if this is you I'm speaking to, you know, like it's okay. Just write down the things that are most important to you and prioritize what can happen realistically for you. And if it does not, it's okay, it's not the end of the world. You'll do it next time and just put it on your list the next day. And I feel like I did a lot of journaling in 2025. And so I when they asked us to do this, I really was like, this year, I really took the time every day to put my thoughts on paper. That was something that I needed to do to help me organize my thoughts and my next plans. And I think that's why it came to me on what would be my next step, because I literally would take time to write down my thoughts on a day-to-day basis, versus I'm like, oh, it's in my brain, I got it, it's fine. And like, no, writing the things down, and you can go back and see what you said, and then you reflect, like, okay, I didn't get to do that, but I am gonna do this. And now I know at the beginning of the year, I was writing down, God, show me my next steps. And then it appeared. So that was just the things, like just putting things like that. What is my what are my next steps? What am I supposed to be doing next when I because I know that I can overwhelm myself and I'm like, you know, I'm gonna do this, this, this, this, and this, and this. And it's like, yeah, nah, I'm not able to do that. But starting to put it all on paper and see, okay, it it helped me so, so much this year. And uh reflecting, it's like, wow, I really did do a lot, and I really was checking the boxes, you know. So um, yeah. Do you journal any? Do you like write things down?

SPEAKER_03:

I don't. I probably should. I'm a massive like list taker. Like even coming up with my menu completely by hand.

SPEAKER_04:

Like it's oh, well, no, that's good because you're liking it.

SPEAKER_03:

But you know, it's like you said, it's like you write it, it's there, it's what I mean. I could show you like 90 lists that are on this. Is also an ADHD brain. So I think that's a little bit of it too.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

So it's like I got lists there, I got a list in my notes app, you know. Yeah. My thing is like visual manifestation. Yeah. I I didn't realize that for a long time that's what I was even doing with things. But it's like if I had a thought about something, if I couldn't foresee it coming clearly in my brain, and it's it was something it was it was quiet. I wouldn't really say it out loud, but if like I couldn't visually clearly see it, it almost would never happen. But if I thought about it and I was like, I can see the vision clearly, whatever it is, you know, and then it would pretty much always happen like it was supposed to, you know. It's like if it wasn't clear, then I was like, I it almost would let me not be disappointed about it because I was like, well, the vision didn't come clearly to me, so clearly it just wasn't the time for it. Like something didn't wasn't computing to come bring it together, and that's okay. Me and my husband always like to say, like, everything happens in its own time, like it's absolutely supposed to, and that's gotten us through some really tough points in our lives, but but it's like he's always like, no, this is exactly when we were supposed to do this, and that's okay. You know, it doesn't have to feel late or feel early or feel whatever. It's like if this is when you're supposed to do it, then just do it. And and that's really helped. And it's not not being smart about it, it's more of like, can you can you foresee this really being a thing and kind of wave through all the anxieties and everything else and just really get to the point of like, can I see this clearly in my brain? Yeah, okay. And so this year that was what happened with the business. It was like, can I see the business clearly in my brain? Yes.

SPEAKER_05:

So I did it.

SPEAKER_03:

But like three, four years ago, I had the same thought can I see a business clearly in my brain? No, something was blocking it, something was blocking it. And so I did it. And you know, and I had some really tough years then, and so it was almost like my brain was like, you need to slow down probably for a little while, because you got some things coming up, you know, in the four works. And you know, if you're a spiritual person or whatever, maybe it's that. I don't know, but um, it's just really interesting how our brains work if you let them by manifesting, they're gonna be able to do that. Yeah, yeah. I think that's amazing. I didn't really know that's what it was called for the longest time, but I think that's amazing if if that's what works for you, you know, whether it's you know, praying about it, talking about it. You know, I called up friends in the industry that would have no rhyme or reason to tell me one way or another. Like, like I have one girlfriend, Morgan Rackley, in in Atlanta, and she was one of the first people I called because I just knew that she would just be real with me about it. And I was like, listen, this is my idea. Am I totally crazy? She's like, no, that sounds amazing. Do it, you better do it, do it. Like, you just and she did, and she was like, I think you're gonna be so ready before you even realize it. Like, right. So that was that was sweet. But you know, if you need those people in your in your wheelhouse telling you like do it, get up and do it, then do it. I mean, you need yourself most, but you know, it you need those people in there.

SPEAKER_04:

Your circle is so important. Yes, the people you surround yourself with can make or break you.

SPEAKER_03:

And it's like Lanise always says, you know, if you don't have a circle, we will be your circle. You know, that's what we're here for. Absolutely. So you can reach out to us. Uh, you know, I'm at the skin gal for my, I guess you could call it my personal spa page at this point. I have my app preparation skin spa brewing um as well now. And Lanise, where can they find you?

SPEAKER_04:

Uh, you can find me at Lace Balanese Spa. Um building all of the things for the school right now. I don't have anything just yet, but Lace Balani Spa, very active there. Slide in my DM if you have any questions for me. I will definitely respond. And uh, I'm excited that 2026 we're gonna do an in-person podcast. Now that I'm so excited about. Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_03:

We've been trying to plan for it, but it just has not worked out very well. Because again, like she said, we're busy, busy women. Yes, and uh yeah, so we're hoping to bring you some new things in 26. The brand new season of the podcast begins in April. So we're gonna have a little break and come back with some new fresh things. Um, so of course, send in your questions and if there's something you want us to talk about, anything like that, we'd love to hear from you. But over in all, I mean, it's been a great season. And if you have any last thoughts, Miss Lanise, bring them on.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, I I like I think I've yapped a lot today. I feel like I just went in, but uh sometimes, you know, you just gotta let it out. And it's healthy for us to uh, you know, vent and just release all the things that are in our brains and in our minds because at the end of the day, this is the time. I feel like during podcasts, you are that's you come to listen. And I think it's very important for us to give you substance. So we really want to hear what you guys want to hear from uh from us on the aesthetic report for 2026 so we can make sure we're keeping it interesting for you guys. So please don't hesitate to let us know and send us some thoughts and ideas so uh we can keep engaging you all for the new year. So that's it for me. I'm just excited to keep going on this journey as an SD spa owner and soon-to-be school owner is gonna be my life. I don't really know how I'm gonna do all this, guys. So no, I don't have it figured out. I don't. I don't. I'm gonna be probably running like a chicken with my head cut off with 2026.

SPEAKER_03:

But so if you see me looking crazy, there's never a perfect plan, you know. It's it's kind of like birth, right? You can have a plan, but it's probably not gonna go like that. And uh that part, yeah, and and being okay with that, you know. You you gotta have ways to, like you said in the beginning, you gotta have ways to pivot. We've gotta have ways to rebrand or you know, step up or step back, depending on you know where you are. I think that's really our final thoughts on the season, on the day, on the year, whatever you want to call it, is that everybody needs to take their own time. And I just want to thank you, Lanise. I want to thank, you know, the Dermoscope team who's had me here since 2020, if y'all can believe that. Wow. And and it's just been amazing. And uh I hope y'all keep listening in. Um, I can't wait to see y'all back in the new season. And with new things.

SPEAKER_04:

We'll see y'all in 2026. Thank you guys so much again for listening, and we look forward to seeing you guys next year. Bye.
